Livestock opens all Ladder Hatches to Workshop skins and releases Plague Doctor Hazmat Suit

Plague Doctor Hazmat Suit is now available in-game and on Steam

Plague Doctor Hazmat Suit is a new Hazmat Suit skin featured in Livestock as a separate Item DLC. Facepunch chose a plague doctor theme, but the description makes no promises of salvation: this character brings death and decay, not a cure.

The Plague Doctor Hazmat Suit can be purchased in two ways: through the in-game store or the Rust Item Store on Steam. It’s a ready-to-use item for buyers, while the update’s other cosmetic addition — Workshop support for hatches — is primarily aimed at skin creators.

The suit received a more mixed response than the hatch update

The Plague Doctor Hazmat Suit section received 72 upvotes and 22 downvotes. By comparison, the section about new Workshop items received 68 upvotes and 9 downvotes. Both sections had more positive than negative votes, but the suit had a higher share of negative votes. These ratings reflect reactions to the announcement sections; they don’t specify why people were dissatisfied.

Regular and armored Ladder Hatches opened to skins

The Workshop update covers all four Ladder Hatch variants: regular and armored, including the triangular versions. In Livestock, skin creation became available for each of these items, so creators can work with the full set rather than just one variant.

The top and underside of the hatch can have different designs

Section author matt.i specifically highlights the work on the top and underside of the hatches. The team gave them extra attention so each side could have its own distinct design.

As an example of the creative freedom available, matt.i suggests turning a hatch into a pizza. It’s an idea for creators from the announcement, not the name of a released skin.

How to start making a hatch skin

Facepunch explains how to get started through the in-game Workshop. All four variants listed above are available there as deployable Ladder Hatch items.

• Select the desired Ladder Hatch variant in the in-game Workshop.
• Upload the model files for the selected item.
• Add custom materials to design the skin.
