How to open the console in CS2

  3. Paste a command or a set and press Enter.

Ready-made command sets

Copy a set and paste it into the console — every command is in the game

Show FPS and ping

An FPS counter and network stats on screen.

cl_showfps 1; cl_hud_telemetry_frametime_show 2; cl_hud_telemetry_ping_show 2; cl_hud_telemetry_net_misdelivery_show 2

Remove the frame cap

Uncapped FPS in matches, 120 in menus so your graphics card doesn’t heat up for nothing.

fps_max 0; fps_max_ui 120

Cap for G-Sync or FreeSync

3 frames below the monitor refresh rate — no screen tearing. Only if sync is enabled in the driver.

fps_max 237

Declutter the screen

No hints, tracers or avatars. Barely affects FPS.

cl_autohelp 0; cl_showloadout 0; r_drawtracers_firstperson 0; cl_hide_avatar_images 1

If your ping jumps

Smooths out enemy stutter on an unstable connection. With a good connection set it back to 0.

cl_net_buffer_ticks 1

How to increase FPS in CS2

Video settings and your PC give the most frames — the console adds little
In-game settingLow FPSCompetitiveWhy
Boost Player ContrastOnOnPlayers stand out from the map
Wait for Vertical SyncOffOffSync adds input lag
Multisampling Anti-Aliasing ModeNone2x MSAAAnti-aliasing is heavy on the GPU; 4x only with plenty of spare FPS
Global Shadow QualityMediumHighShadows give away enemies around corners — don’t go below medium
Dynamic ShadowsSun OnlyAllAll shows player shadows, but lowers FPS
Model / Texture DetailLowLowBarely affects what you see in a fight
Texture Filtering ModeBilinearBilinearAnisotropic noticeably lowers FPS
Shader DetailLowLowFewer effects, more frames
Particle DetailLowLowLess smoke and sparks on screen
Ambient OcclusionOffOffLooks only
High Dynamic RangePerformancePerformanceFaster, the difference is barely visible
FidelityFX Super ResolutionOffOffBlurs the image and may add input lag
NVIDIA Reflex Low LatencyOnOnLower input lag

Settings, Video, Advanced. Change one at a time and watch the FPS counter: the gain differs between graphics cards.

If FPS drops

What to check outside the game
  • Graphics driverUpdate your NVIDIA or AMD driver: new versions also target CS2 updates. If things get worse after an update, do a clean install.
  • Windows power planHigh performance in power options. Laptops: plug in — on battery the CPU and GPU run slower.
  • Background apps and overlaysClose the browser, screen recording and extra overlays: they take CPU and video memory during the match.
  • Xbox Game Bar and background recordingWindows Settings, Gaming: turn off Game Bar and background recording if you don’t use them.
  • Laptop: the right graphics cardSettings, Display, Graphics: choose High performance for cs2.exe, otherwise the game may run on the integrated GPU.
  • OverheatingIf FPS drops after 10–20 minutes of play, check temperatures and clean the dust out of your PC.
  • Game file integritySteam, CS2, Properties, Installed Files: verify integrity if stutters started after an update.
  • Game on an SSDFrom a hard drive, maps and models load slower — hence stutters at the start of a round.

What FPS you need

At least your monitor’s refresh rate; next to it — the refresh rates pros play at
MonitorFPS at leastPros on this refresh rate
60 Hz60—
144 Hz1441%
165 Hz165—
240 Hz24020%
360 Hz36032%

Stable FPS matters more than high FPS: drops in a firefight are more noticeable than the average. Watch frame time in the telemetry: the flatter the graph, the better.
