Dota 2 MMR Ranks: Table

Your Dota 2 medal is based on your MMR, but Valve doesn't publish the thresholds for each rank. The figures below come from player-maintained references compiled from profiles, and they match across different guides. Treat them as a rough guide, not an in-game rule: Valve officially publishes figures only for Immortal.

RankMMRMMR per star
Herald0–769154 MMR
Guardian770–1,539154 MMR
Crusader1,540–2,309154 MMR
Archon2,310–3,079154 MMR
Legend3,080–3,849154 MMR
Ancient3,850–4,619154 MMR
Divine4,620–5,619200 MMR
Immortal5,620+Leaderboard position

Each medal from Herald to Ancient spans 770 MMR, or 154 per star: Archon 1 starts at 2,310 MMR, while Archon 3 starts at 2,618 (2,310 + 2 × 154). Each Divine star is worth 200 MMR. You can check your rating on your profile. Since patch 7.41e, player ratings range from 1 to 9,500. Immortal Draft requires at least 8,500 MMR.

Dota 2 ranks in order

Dota 2 ranks go from Herald to Immortal, for a total of eight medals. Every rank except Immortal has five stars. To find your place in the ranking, consider both the medal name and the number of stars.

Ranked matchmaking unlocks after you play a certain number of hours in unranked matches. You also need a phone number linked to Steam, and each number can enable ranked play on only 1 account. You won't get a medal until your rank confidence reaches the required threshold. Confidence rises with each game you play and falls if you take a long break.

Your medal is based on your hidden MMR, which only you can see. In Ranked Roles, the game tracks separate MMRs for Core and Support. Your profile shows both your Core MMR and Support MMR.

Within each medal that has stars, ranks go from one star to five. Herald 1 is the lowest tier, while Divine 5 is the highest star-ranked tier. Immortal is above it and has no star divisions.

Instead of stars, the Immortal medal shows your leaderboard rank. On July 30, 2026, in patch 7.41e, Valve recalculated the MMR of all Immortal players. It now ranges from 1 to 9,500 MMR, while their leaderboard positions remain unchanged. The Immortal Draft threshold is still 8,500 MMR.

Dota 2 rank table: how many players are in each medal

To see how many Dota 2 players are in each rank, compare the two columns. “Player share” shows what portion of the sample has that medal, including all its stars. “Below this rank” shows the share of players in lower medals, excluding players within the same rank.

How to compare your rank with other players

Find your medal in the first column. The second shows how common it is, while the third shows what share of players are in lower medals. For example, 16.6% of the sample is Legend, and 63.0% are below that rank.

This table compares full ranks, not individual stars. The 63.0% figure counts players with medals below Legend, but excludes players with lower stars within Legend itself. Use the star-by-star breakdown to compare tiers within a medal.

What rank is the average Dota 2 player?

Based on OpenDota's distribution, the median player is Archon 2. 47.4% of players are below Archon 2, while 51.4% are Archon 2 or lower, placing the midpoint of the sample at this tier. Archon is also the most common medal, but a rank's frequency and the median answer different questions.

The most common medals

Archon is the most common rank at 19.7% of players, followed by Crusader at 19.1%. These figures include all five stars of each medal.

Which ranks make up the top 10% and 20%?

Divine and Immortal together make up the top 10% of the sample. Ancient and all ranks above it make up the top 20.4%.

Terms in this article
Medal
The name of a rank, such as Crusader or Legend. All medals except Immortal have five stars.
Median
The midpoint of a distribution: the tier that falls in the middle of the players in the sample. Here, that is Archon 2.
OpenDota sample
Accounts whose rank is known to the service and whose matches and profile it can access. This does not include every Dota 2 player.

How players are distributed across stars

Players are not evenly distributed across the five stars. Up to Archon, higher stars within a rank have more players than lower ones. From Archon onward, the pattern reverses: the share falls toward the fifth star.

Each cell shows the share of all players with a known rank, not just players with the corresponding medal. Source: OpenDota, October 2, 2026. Immortal is not included in the star table because it has no stars; its share in the detailed distribution is 3.97%.

The share of players in Herald and Guardian increases from one star to five. It also rises across Crusader, although the fourth and fifth stars have the same displayed value: 3.91%. For Archon, Legend, Ancient, and Divine, the share declines with each successive star.

Rank and hero picks

The meta varies across ranks. So hero-pick recommendations for one rank group do not automatically apply to another. Our guides “Best Dota 2 Heroes” and “Dota 2 Heroes for Beginners” include hero tables by rank group, showing win rate and popularity over the past week. Switch the table to your rank.
